James Clerk Maxwell

 Not strictly for geeks(?):

Sometimes we stay in a cabin in Scotland, by Loch Ken, near the village of Parton, Dumfries & Galloway. James Clerk Maxwell - an extraordinary scientist - is buried inside the ruins of an old kirk which sits in the grounds of the 'new' kirk.

Here are some pictures of his resting place and, for super-geeks, I made a short MPEG/AVI movie using my rather basic digital camera. (A Cannon A60)
Some report it fails, so I've added a zipped version so it can be downloaded, unzipped and played.
If anyone nows why the AVI fails I'd love to hear from you.

All files scanned for Viruses and none found by Sophos or eTrust EZ so I, at least, would be confident enough to feed them to my children.

It reads:
His short life was high in distinguished contributions to every branch of physical science - heat, light, mechanics.
Above all, by unifying the theories of electricity and magnetism, he established a sure foundation for modern physics, electrical engineering and atsronomy, and prepared the way for radio communication and television.
A commemorative plaque outside the New Kirk as seen from the road.
The short walk-through movie. (30Meg MPEG)
An MPEG from the AVI with me blabbing on in the background plus a special fly-by from the RAF.

An AVI straight from the camera.
